"Lord have mercy!” Many of us have heard or said these very words when life hands us events that surprise, shock and seem to overwhelm us. What is Mercy? Perhaps mercy applied, is simply demonstrating acts of compassion, acts of kindness and even, acts of forgiveness. What does acting out Christ’s compassion for others look like…sound like? How can His kindness be shown to family, friends and…enemies? Some of our Lord’s last recorded words while hanging on the cross clearly testifies to His heart of mercy and forgiveness… “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!”
He came to earth to teach us. He taught us, not just with his words, but with His deeds. Among the gifts of the spirit, some Biblical scholars suggest the heart of Jesus is best captured by the mercy givers. The Beatitudes, as recorded in Matthew 5:7 seem to confirm this idea: “Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain Mercy.” Simple: Give it away…and it will come back to you.
Come, journey with us - as together we discover Christ’s mercy in action.
